Your Pet's Surgery

Your pet's safety and comfort are our highest priority at Severn River Animal Hospital. Whether your pet needs a neuter procedure or foreign body removal surgery, our veterinarians and staff are ready to provide compassionate care using advanced veterinary surgical techniques. Our hospital is capable of performing a variety of surgical procedures, including spay and neuter surgeries, tumor removals, and laceration repairs. More specialized procedures, such as orthopedic surgeries, are referred to a board-certified veterinary surgery specialist, but may still be performed within our surgical suite.

We combine modern technology with old-fashioned, loving care to make surgical procedures as safe and stress-free as possible. It is our goal to make your pet comfortable and to provide you with peace of mind. We encourage you to ask questions about your pet's procedure and welcome you to call and check on your pet when they are hospitalized for surgery.

Prior to surgery, your pet will undergo a full physical examination, blood tests, and a pre-operative evaluation. Our surgeon will use this information to develop an anesthesia protocol designed to meet your pet's specific needs. Severn River Animal Hospital places an emphasis on pain prevention and uses only safe and gentle forms of anesthesia.

During surgery, your pet's vital signs are monitored by a highly trained veterinary technician using a blood pressure monitor, pulse oximetry, electrocardiogram, body temperature and other advanced monitoring equipment. A warming blanket surrounds your pet while in recovery. In our kennel suite, which is kept at a comfortable temperature, your pet will wake up in the arms of their very own compassionate veterinary technician. This technician will send your pet home the same day as surgery with home care instructions and their business card in case you have any further questions.
